11.05.09 | NEW $10,000 Scholarship Winner Announced for October!
In what I can only describe as bizarre, the October $10,000 scholarship winner would not provide the basic necessary details that winners are required to submit to us so that we may process their scholarship, thus forfeiting the $10,000 first prize.
All winners are required to give us: college name, financial aid officer’s name, mailing address, school id or last 4 digits of social, and a short paragraph about yourself and how the scholarship will help. We also strongly encourage 10K winners to supply a 30-second or shorter video clip as well telling us how awesome Scholarshippoints is. That’s it. I am still scratching my head over this one.
At any rate, a new student has been crowned the $10,000 October scholarship winner! Check out the winners page and see if it’s you!

hope to avail this scholarship.. whoah!
That really tanks for that person. This guy just lost $10,000 toward a higher education, because he/she the little requirements they asked for. Scholarshippoints is giving away MONEY. If I win the November $1,000 scholarship, I'd be sure to fill out the last bit of information to get it.
That's absolute craziness, they refused?
To give up such a blessing is sad. I hope that this person is well. Congrats to the new winner. Best wishes for your education and future.
I'm going for the November scholarship. i've put in 572 points! i'm soo proud and confident. how many have you put in?
I can't believe that! Who walks away from money like that?
I am going to work so hard for the december scholarship
wow thats crazy
i would have def. take that money!
Scaary…
do people acctually win?
Yes, ani, people do actually win! Fortunately, I respond to you from positive experience because I was one of the lucky winners earlier this year. As far as the person who forfeited the 10K because she/he thought it was not legit. Sadly, there are so many scams out on the internet that she obviously was not comfortable that SP's was legit and was concerned about providing the minimal information that is requested to actually collect the scholarship. It's really too bad considering she lost out on money that I bet she could really use! But, I can tell you that since winning a scholarship, I have received many facebook messages from strangers who share the same skepticism, asking "Is SP's legit? Did you actually get the money? Did anything bad happen to you since receiving it?" I tell everyone the same … ALL IS ON THE UP & UP WITH SCHOLARSHIPPOINTS. Yes, the scholarship check was mailed to my school within a few weeks, and I have had absolutely no issues at all. So, seriously people, have no fear … they are not out to scam you … just to help you pay for your education.
It's sad that the person who won the 10K scholarship was not comfortable with providing the minimal information requested because she legitimately lost out on lots of free money.
I know they announce the winners on the homepage but what happens if you don't check back in time. Do they contact you about you winning because if not maybe the person didnt check back to see if they won.
Hey , is this scholarship only for US nationals. Can people from other country apply for it?
Specially if one wants to pursue an MBA which is very expensive..
i wouldn't give my social out either :/
it said you could give out your school ID instead though.
I guess I understand, but my school has my last four digits of my social sec. number, and every time I take a test they ask for that so I'm pretty sure that they have no worries about their identity being stolen or anything, but if people want to throw that away, go ahead, I'll pick it up.
what if the student is only 17? you have to be 18 to win. Would the parent have to join for them? I dont see anything covering this situation…
We are in the process of changing our terms and condition on that one! A student does not have to be 18 to win, however they do have to be enrolled in college or a senior in high school planning on enrolling in college within 12 months.
Will this contest still be going in 2011?
Yes! So far we are planning on have four $10,000 scholarship drawings in 2011!
