02.17.10 | A Little Scholarship Secret
Did you know that there could be thousands of dollars in scholarships right in your own community? Many students search for scholarships online and apply for national contests, but these contests can have hundreds of thousands of applicants. Local scholarships have much smaller applicant pools so the chances of winning are much greater. So where can you find these scholarships? Here is a list of places to look:
- Your high school’s guidance department – sometimes your high school will have an entire list of community scholarships.
- Your church – many churches give out one or two scholarships to active members.
- Your local Rotary club – Rotary clubs often award scholarships to students for excellence in academics, community service and other activities.
- Your summer job – many local businesses give out scholarships to their student employees.
- Any organizations your parents are involved in – often times organizations will give scholarships to people they know so if your parents are involved that is a plus.
Now is the time when most local organizations are collecting applications and making decisions about award winners so do not delay the application process! Good luck and don’t forget about the ScholarshipPoints March 2010 $10,000 scholarship drawing! You have about a month left to earn points and enter to win!
