11.12.09 | Olive Garden’s Essay Writing Contest

Hello my little scholarship seekers! As you know there are new scholarships posted each week over on Student Scholarship Search.  I just posted one this morning for the Olive Garden.  Personally I’d be happy if I won a gift card from Olive so I could eat some of that fine cuisine, but someone is going to win $2,500 and a three day trip to NY City along with dinner at the Olive Garden in Times Square!

10.23.09 | 500,000 Never Felt So Good

scholarshippoints membersScholarshippoints hits the 500,000 member mark!

One of my favorite movie quotes of all time is, “If you build it, he will come” from the 1989 hit movie Field of Dreams.  Now 20 years later I’m proud to say I am associated with scholarshippoints.com, a program which serves as its own field of dreams for many deserving students.

The scholarshippoints program was launched back in 2006.  We awarded $250, $500, and $1,000  scholarships during our inaugural year, but my how things have changed.

As the site has grow so have the scholarship dollars.  2008 was a banner year for us as we gave away $25,000, but are now on pace to shatter that mark by giving away an incredible $100,000 in ‘09!

“We were pleased to offer $25,000 in scholarship awards in 2008,” said Joe Cronin, CEO of Edvisors and Scholarshippoints. “But given the current state of the economy and limited resources available to families today, we knew we could have a profound impact by raising the scholarship award pool and helping even more students in 2009.”

Everyone at scholarshippoints would like to say THANK YOU to all our dedicated members, new and old, for making this a truly special site.  We just love adding new scholarship opportunities for our valued members, and I trust you love winning them!

We built it. You came. And we couldn’t be happier.

Friday Rant!
Did you hear the good news about the 2009-2010 academic year? In addition to the increase in Pell Grant money (which is great for students), Federal Stafford loan funds have been increased by $2,000! Terrific, let’s poor more student loan debt on the children of tomorrow.
